The use of oxygen compressor
What is an oxygen compressor and where is it used?
As we all know, air contains a mixture of all gases. Medical oxygen concentrators separate other gases from oxygen through PSA (pressure swing adsorption) technology. The stored oxygen is directly transferred to the hospital through the hospital's existing medical gas pipeline system. This medical oxygen concentrator is very reliable and cost-effective, but in order to maintain an additional backup to prevent bad situations, hospitals often keep oxygen cylinders as backup. If you install a high-pressure oxygen compressor or booster on the medical oxygen concentrator, these oxygen cylinders will be automatically filled. The oxygen compressor or booster stores oxygen in cylinders with a pressure of 150barg, and it is recommended to have a backup of 2 days.
Why do we need oxygen compressors to fill oxygen cylinders?
Now you might be wondering, if the hospital has already installed a medical oxygen concentrator, then why can’t it automatically fill the cylinders. Why do we need an oxygen compressor to fill the cylinders? The answer is simple and logical. Storing oxygen in a cylinder requires high pressure, and to store something at high pressure, there must be external pressure. This external pressure is provided by the oxygen booster. Whenever the main supply (medical oxygen concentrator) is shut off from the medical gas pipeline system, the cylinder will automatically start releasing oxygen, and that’s how it works. In short, the oxygen compressor or booster installed along with the medical oxygen concentrator helps to store oxygen in the cylinder as a backup. The oxygen is stored in the cylinder at a pressure of 150bar. Both the cylinder and the medical oxygen concentrator are connected to the same pipeline, and the primary source of supply depends on the customer’s wish.
Why use an oxygen compressor to fill oxygen cylinders?
Oxygen cylinders supplied through suppliers include daily refilling, delivery charges, middleman charges, and various other miscellaneous charges. This makes your oxygen cylinders more expensive than their actual cost. In such a case, it would be much cheaper to install an oxygen compressor to fill the cylinders. The cost will be lower in the long run as the initial cost will be covered in a matter of months. Moreover, there is always a risk of oxygen shortage at critical moments. If you have an oxygen compressor, then this risk will also become negligible as this technology will automatically fill the cylinders. If your hospital is located in a hilly area or an earthquake-prone area, then the delivery of oxygen cylinders is not so easy, time and again. You will also need additional storage space or even a warehouse to store these oxygen cylinders. Installing oxygen cylinders will ensure that you do not have to pay for any additional efforts. Also, we will not forget to mention that this excellent technology is pollution-free, low-maintenance, and safe.
